District 1 - Lon E. Pishny
"Finney County is a great place to own a business and raise a family. Neighbors help neighbors. Both community organizations and individuals are committed to enhancing the quality of life."
|Lon grew up in Waterville, Kansas, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree from Fort Hays State University. He went on to continue his education and career in financial planning and banking, becoming a Certified Financial Planner, Certified Kingdom Advisor, and a Registered Investment Advisor. Lon is also licensed for life and health insurance and general securities.|
He began his career as a reporter and sports information director, but in 1994 Lon launched a financial services firm, Pishny Financial Services, L.C., with which he is active to this day. He's served on many community boards including the State Treasurer's Advisory Committee for the 529 Education Savings Plan and he currently is as a member of the Western Kansas Council on Estate Planning and Giving.
Lon first ran for the County Commission in 2014 and has filed to run again in 2018 for a second four-year term. Lon believes in giving back to the community through his role on the Commission. Although his main focus is the state-mandated services for counties, he sees unique needs in Finney County and wants to ensure the Commission is striving for financial responsibility to balance with the needs for services desired by the county's citizens.
"Even if we might have differing ideas on how to proceed on specific issues, we have amiably resolved those differences in the spirit of doing what is in the best interest of the county's citizens, rather than remaining focused on our personal biases."Lon's passion for the community led him to serve on various other community boards, both past and present. He currently is a member of the Board of Directors for the St. Catherine Hospital Development Foundation and is a member of the Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce.
Lon's wife, Janyth, is a retired school teacher. Their two children are both now married and Lon enjoys spending time with his children and six grandchildren.
