Work on the project to widen US-50/400 to four lanes from Holcomb to Garden City has resumed all along the corridor and will require closing Third Street north of the US-50/83/400 bypass for up to two weeks. The Kansas Department of Transportation plans to close the north side of the Third Street intersection with the highway on Tuesday, April 12, and reopen the intersection by Tuesday, April 26, weather permitting. Third Street south of the highway will remain open. During that time, the contractor will finish paving the intersection, including the shoulders, approaches to the highway and crossover between the eastbound and westbound lanes. Once this intersection is completed and reopened, KDOT does not anticipate needing to close Third Street again during construction of this project. As construction continues, the contractor will need to do similar work at the intersections with VFW Road, Anderson Road and Chmelka Road. Currently, paving of the westbound lanes has been completed through the Anderson Road intersection. Anderson Road is closed north of the highway, but should reopen on Saturday. The Kansas DOT also wants to remind drivers of the reduced speed limit through the work zone. Please be alert to construction activities, obey the speed limit and be prepared to slow down or stop, as necessary. If you have questions regarding this project, please call Kirk Hutchinson, Public Affairs Manager, or Craig Schlott, Construction Engineer, at 620-276-3241.
